Colt CBX Rifles Safety Recall

Colt’s Manufacturing recently learned of a potential safety issue with its CBX bolt-action rifles. Both the CBX Precision and CBX Tac Hunter models are affected. The company is voluntarily initiating a recall of these rifles because of the potential for an unintentional discharge of the rifle, without pulling the trigger, under certain conditions when the manual safety is disengaged.

To prevent the possibility of death or serious personal injury, Colt asks anyone who owns a CBX rifle to immediately stop using it and return it to Colt. The company has not learned of any injuries to members of the public due to the issue, but is issuing this recall in an abundance of safety.

The company will cover all shipping costs to return the rifles. Full instructions, details on the recall, an FAQ and convenient link to generate a shipping label are available at Coltcbx.com.

The CBX line has been discontinued, so the firearms will not be repaired and returned. Colt is, however, offering a cash refund of $1,899 for Precision models and $999 for Tac Hunters. Participating owners can also opt to receive one of the company’s popular revolvers. Two models also include a cash refund.

Colt has learned that, for some CBX rifles, if the trigger is pulled while the manual safety is engaged (in the “safe” position), the trigger may not fully reset. This could result in an unintentional discharge of the rifle when the manual safety is moved to the “fire” position, without a further pull of the trigger.

Consumers may also contact Colt Customer Service by email at cbxrecall@colt.com. You can also phone (800) 962-2658 weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Eastern time) and select the CBX recall option at the main menu.
