LAKE MARY, FL (2-minute read) — An early-morning altercation outside the Notting Hill condominiums in unincorporated Lake Mary ended in a fatal self-defense shooting, according to the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies responded to the scene shortly after 2 a.m., where they found a man and a woman with gunshot wounds.

The male victim was transported to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries. The female victim, however, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated on-site.

Authorities confirmed that a man was taken into custody at the scene. He reported being involved in an argument with the male victim at a condominium within the complex. As the dispute escalated, the man attempted to leave but was followed and allegedly attacked near his vehicle. The shooter told investigators that he retrieved his firearm and shot the male victim in self-defense.

The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office has stated that no charges will be filed at this time, as the evidence supports the claim of self-defense. However, the investigation remains ongoing, and the names of those involved have not been disclosed.

Understanding Florida’s Self-Defense Laws

Florida’s self-defense laws, including the “Stand Your Ground” statute, allow individuals to use force, including deadly force, if they reasonably believe it is necessary to prevent imminent harm. In this case, the evidence reportedly supports the shooter’s claim that he acted in defense of his life.

Safety Tip: Always be aware of your surroundings and avoid escalating confrontations. If you carry a firearm, ensure you are familiar with local self-defense laws and practice responsible handling.
