California Governor Gavin Newsom on Monday said the Trump Administration had been targeting him as a “political enemy” through a baseless Department of Justice investigation. Newsom accused President Donald Trump of “coming after me because I am considering running for President.”
Newsom said that family members, friends, and former employees had been approached in recent days by federal agents. Newsom also alleged that the administration was investigating his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom.
The alleged investigation follows Trump’s nomination of Todd Blanche, the acting attorney general, to head the DOJ following the departure in April of Pam Bondi. Blanche has overseen indictments of prominent Trump critics, including former FBI director James Comey.
